Fringe

Description

Fringe fashion refers to the layers of hanging threads or cords on clothing. Those threads are often classified as decorative garments made out of leather, buckskin, and suede. Fringe is used in different styles in different forms. Fringe provides almost unlimited ways to be altered and used with great practicality.

History

Fringe was first introduced to the fashion industry in the 1920s. It was usually used in women’s fashion and flapper look which was a popular style back then among the women.

However, surprisingly fringe was also found much before the fashion industry had even started, in 3000 BCE. Fringe was discovered as a part of a clothing the Mesopotamian people used to wear. Along with the Mesopotamians, fringe was used among the Native Americans. The Native Americans have used leather to create fringe and it was usually used for decorative purposes.

Coming back to the 20th century, fringe once again appeared to be the fashion trend in the 1950s. Fringe was commonly found on motorbike jackets, made out of leather which changed the overall style of the fringe fashion. Through this time period, fringe fashion had gained a rebellious image that showed extreme contrast to the 1920s.
